Terence Kleven, professor of religion at Central College, and Shannan Mattiace, a 1990 graduate, were honored at the college’s Commencement ceremony Saturday, May 15.
Jay Wackerly, associate professor of chemistry at Central, has been awarded the Organic Syntheses, Inc. Grant for Summer Research. Amy Philavanh, Class of 2022 and a biochemistry major from Ankeny, Iowa, will help Wackerly conduct research this summer.
Dean Furness, a 1994 graduate, and Central’s Building a Culture of Inclusion initiative received 2021 Engaged Campus Awards from Iowa Campus Compact.
Cameron Coles, a member of the Class of 2022, is the second Central student to win the competitive Goldwater Scholarship.
Central won two Best of Red Rock Area awards from the Marion County Development Commission, along with a Central alumnus who was named to the Top 10 Under 40.
Central received honorable mentions for key communications and fundraising initiatives from District VI of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education.
