Linda Laine, professor of communication studies at Central, was installed as the Kenneth J. Weller Distinguished Professor of the Liberal Arts on Sept. 29.
WorkSMART Connector’s “Career Awareness & Exploration” program has been named a 2021 STEM BEST partner. The program is a collaboration with Central College, Pella and surrounding K-12 schools, area community colleges and regional employers.
Terence J. Kleven, the Jacob and Gela Schnucker Sessler Professor of Philosophy and Religious Studies at Central, has been awarded a Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program grant to conduct research in Arabic political philosophy at the University of Jordan in Amman, Jordan.

Terence Kleven, professor of religion at Central College, and Shannan Mattiace, a 1990 graduate, were honored at the college’s Commencement ceremony Saturday, May 15.
Jay Wackerly, associate professor of chemistry at Central, has been awarded the Organic Syntheses, Inc. Grant for Summer Research. Amy Philavanh, Class of 2022 and a biochemistry major from Ankeny, Iowa, will help Wackerly conduct research this summer.
Dean Furness, a 1994 graduate, and Central’s Building a Culture of Inclusion initiative received 2021 Engaged Campus Awards from Iowa Campus Compact.
Cameron Coles, a member of the Class of 2022, is the second Central student to win the competitive Goldwater Scholarship.
