Providing a unique new opportunity to explore a key component of athletics success, Central College is offering its Sports Leadership Seminar to area high school athletes and coaches.
Central College has been awarded a share of a $600,000 grant from the Iowa Department of Education for the next three years. The grant will fund a collaborative project between Central College and Drake University to train high school math teachers from low-income areas.
Either individually or as a group, participating students create a documentary, exhibit, paper, performance or website about a historical event, person, issue or idea related to an annual theme. The 2012 theme is “Revolution, Reaction, Reform in History.”
Nearly 150 students from 20 Iowa high schools will attend Central’s Singfest 2012 on Feb. 9 for a day of choral instruction and performance.
Central College presents the 33rd installment of its annual Jazzmania festival Feb. 4, featuring high school and middle school jazz band competitions and a concert from the Central College Jazz Band, who will be joined by Argentinean jazz trumpeter Diego Urcola.
