Central’s Mills Gallery to Feature Photography Exhibition for Hispanic Heritage Month

Central’s department of visual and performing arts will present the 2014 Tony Award-winning musical “A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder” from Oct. 7-10 in Kruidenier Theatre on Central’s campus.
Linda Laine, professor of communication studies at Central, was installed as the Kenneth J. Weller Distinguished Professor of the Liberal Arts on Sept. 29.
Shawn Wick, associate professor of sociology at Central, has co-authored an article published in “Social Forces,” a top-tier sociology journal.
Central College’s Central RED Society will present “Climate Change — The Past, Present & Future” with Russ Benedict, professor of biology, on Tuesday, Oct. 5 and Oct. 12.
Central’s music program will showcase nine concerts in October.
The Fred Maytag Family Foundation is donating $2.25 million to Central College to fund an annual full-ride scholarship program for multiple students from Iowa pursuing a career in a STEM-related field. The donation also will fund scientific instrumentation needs at the college.
Central faculty members Paulina Mena, associate professor of biology; Oscar Reynaga, lecturer of Spanish; and Paul Weihe, associate professor of biology, will present “Faith in the Vaccine” with student ambassadors from Interfaith Youth Corps from 7-8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 27, in the Boat/Moore rooms of Maytag Student Center.
Central College’s Central RED Society will present “Life of an Iowa Mixed Animal Veterinarian” with Tim Yoder on Thursday, Sept. 23.
Central has received a generous bequest of $1.97 million from the late James Naccarato Sr., a 1943 graduate of the college who served as a military attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice.
