Central students to participate in campus-wide Service Day

On April 18, veteran and poet Brian Turner will read from his first book, “Here, Bullet,” for the Writers Reading series at Central College.
“The Other Wes Moore: One Name, Two Fates” has been named the common reading book for the summer of 2013. All incoming first-year students are assigned to read the book before fall classes begin.
Junior Katherine Zellmer will host an International Dinner featuring Austrian foods on April 11 after studying abroad in Vienna, Austria.
Master Glassblower Ed Schmid will be in residence at Central College March 24-28. His glass artwork will be displayed in the Mills Gallery on campus beginning March 27 through April 19.
Central College will be hosting a BIG Dream Gathering in the Graham Conference Center Tuesday, March 26 from 6 to 9 p.m.
Central College was named to the 2013 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll with Distinction by the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS).
Andrew Green, associate professor of political science at Central College, was elected president-elect of the Iowa Association of Political Scientists for the 2013-14 annual year.
The Oxfam Hunger Banquet is a community meal that inspires thought and discussion on the issues of hunger and clean water throughout the world. The meals represent the world’s access to food, and the percentages are based on the actual global distribution of food.
From March 18-22, author Scott Russell Sanders will be in residence at Central College, and on March 21, he will read from his latest book, “Earth Works,” for the Writers Reading series.
