Ashanti, the Latin jazz musical combo, will perform with jazz violinist Christian Howes. Associate professor of music Gabriel Espinosa provides lead vocals and bass for the group.
Central College presents the 33rd installment of its annual Jazzmania festival Feb. 4, featuring high school and middle school jazz band competitions and a concert from the Central College Jazz Band, who will be joined by Argentinean jazz trumpeter Diego Urcola.
The Red and Blue combos will perform together in a Christmas concert featuring songs such as “O Holy Night,” “River,” and “December.”
Guest artist Carol Welsman, an internationally recognized singer and pianist, will host a concert Nov. 11 with the Central College Jazz Band.
Gabriel Espinosa, born in Yucatan, composes Brazilian Jazz in Iowa. He also teaches and directs nearly every style of music at Central College, his alma mater.
