Margaret Tungseth, vice president for finance and administration/treasurer at Central College, has been awarded the Distinguished Risk Manager Award by the University Risk Management and Insurance Association (URMIA). Founded in 1966, the educational association aims to advance the discipline of risk management in higher education.
The Distinguished Risk Manager Award is one of the highest given by URMIA. Tungseth was nominated by other risk management professionals, and selection criteria was based on the development of new techniques in the risk management field, demonstrated leadership, service as a mentor and professional accomplishments, among other factors. Awarded since 1989, at least one Distinguished Risk Manager Award is granted annually. Tungseth was the only recipient in 2011.
“I am honored to be recognized by my peers and feel fortunate to be associated with such a wonderful association,” said Tungseth. “URMIA has enabled me to network with so many incredible professionals who have been an invaluable source of help and information.”
A member for 15 years, Tungseth was recognized for her service to the organization. She has served as the group’s treasurer for five years, was elected to serve as the president of the association in 2009-2010 and has held many other leadership roles. Tungseth was also noted for her role as presenter at many national and international conferences.
New to Central in September, Tungseth remains actively involved with URMIA. She will serve on the 2011-2012 six-person executive committee along with higher education professionals from across the nation.
