The Symphonic Wind Ensemble will perform March 4 as part of the Sunday Concert Series on campus. The concert will begin at 4 p.m. in Douwstra Auditorium.
The ensemble will perform works by American and British composers, including “Symphonic Dance No. 3 (Fiesta)” by Clifton Williams; “Shenandoah” arranged by Frank Ticheli; “Sea Songs” by Ralph Vaughan Williams; “Symphonic Dances from Fiddler on the Roof” by Jerry Bock and arranged by Ira Hearshen; and “Americans We” by Henry Fillmore. Each piece embodies the nationalism of the featured culture. For example, “Fiesta,” in the words of Clifton Williams, represents “the pageantry of Latin American celebration—street bands, bull fights, bright costumes, the colorful legacy of a proud people.”
Mitchell Lutch, assistant professor of music and director of bands, will direct the ensemble.
The concert is free and open to the public. For more information, please contact Debbie Abel at 641-628-5236 or abeld@central.edu.
