Central College has named Sunny Eighmy, a 1999 graduate, the director of college relations. Eighmy previously served as an assistant alumni director and, later, as alumni director at Central before her family relocated to Illinois two years ago.
As director of college relations, Eighmy will manage executive communications and promotion. She will also lead efforts for the college’s national and regional media relations, government and community relations, corporate and foundation relations and executive initiatives.
Since her departure from Central in 2010, Eighmy worked as an external media relations consultant for the college, cultivating relationships with national and regional media outlets for the purpose of increased visibility and contributions to the national dialogue regarding important issues facing education and society. She also worked as a retail field marketing specialist for Pella Corporation.
Originally from Guthrie Center, Eighmy grew up in the family-owned newspaper business and worked at seven newspapers in various roles, including serving as the first female sports editor for both The Oskaloosa Herald and The Red Oak Express and sports information director at William Penn University.
“Sunny’s creativity, persistence and boundless energy helped Central make dramatic inroads with higher education media during her short time as a consultant,” said Mark Putnam, Central College president. “We are excited about the many additional ways the college will benefit from her talents, vision and leadership now that she is back on campus.”
