Alumnus Rob Lindley ’95, a professional actor and musician working in Chicago, will return to Central as artist-in-residence Jan. 23-26. He will host a cabaret concert Jan. 25 at 7:30 p.m. in Cox-Snow Recital Hall.
In cabaret style, Lindley’s performance will feature an intimate combination of spoken word and music. It will include musical selections drawing influence from jazz, Broadway, folk and pop to accompany Lindley’s stories of his time at Central and career in the Windy City. The evening will feature music by Frank Loesser, Noel Coward, Lyle Lovett, Susan Werner and others. Cabaret performances are known for their humor, due to the genre’s traditional reliance on satire.
Lindley is an active member of the Chicago art and theatre community. He has appeared in plays at the Court Theatre, Shakespeare Theatre and Goodman Theatre, among others. He also hosts cabaret performances at venues in Chicago and beyond.
Lindley’s work has been well-recognized. He won a Jeff Award for best actor in a revue for his role in “Oh Coward!” and received a Jeff Award nomination as a supporting actor in “Carousel.” His cabaret performances earned him an After Dark Award for Outstanding Cabaret Artist in 2003.
In addition to his performance at Central, Lindley will meet with classes and student ensembles throughout the week, leading master classes and career planning sessions. An accomplished teacher, Lindley has led music and theater classes and workshops through Northwestern University, Columbia College and The Second City, the famed Chicago comedy club and school of improvisation.
The performance is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Treva Reimer at 641-628-5334 or reimert@central.edu.
