PELLA — Central College’s Red and Blue Vocal and Instrumental Combos will perform a benefit concert for Pennies for Peace Friday, March 4, in the Cox-Snow Recital Hall at 6 p.m. and again at 8 p.m. Tickets are $5 or free with Central I.D. and can be obtained at the Information Booth in the Maytag Student Center by calling 641-628-9000.
Popular songs from the pop, rock, and jazz genres will be sung by students. The combos are under the direction of Gabriel Espinosa, associate professor of music.
Proceeds from the concert will go to the Pella Reads Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson project and to support the charity Pennies for Peace. The Pella Reads project attempts to promote discussion about questions such as “How do we promote peace in our community and in the world?” and “How do we practice hospitality to strangers and to one another?” Pennies for Peace is a nonprofit organization that provides community-based education and literacy programs in the remote mountain regions of Central Asia. The Pella Reads project is sponsored by the Pella Public Library, the Pella Welcoming Community Team and Central College’s cultural affairs office.
