Principal Financial Group awards Central $20,000 for scholarships

October 17, 2013

Central College has received a $20,000 pledge in support of scholarships from the Principal Financial Group for the 2014-15 school year.

The pledge continues a long tradition of the company’s support for student scholarships, which began in 1998.

“We are extremely grateful for our partnership with Principal Financial Group. Their ongoing commitment to Central through their generous annual support is an investment in the success of our students,” said Adam Haselhuhn, director of annual giving. “With 99 percent of our students receiving financial aid, our need is greater than ever before and we are thankful for Principal’s leadership and support.”

The 2013-14 scholarships were given by Principal Financial Group in the areas of language proficiency; study abroad; information technology; economics, accounting and management; liberal arts and sciences; and actuarial science.

Cody Wiederin, a senior at Central, received a $2,000 actuarial science scholarship from Principal Financial Group for the 2013-14 school year.

“Receiving this scholarship is much more than just tuition money for me,” Wiederin said. “It shows that my hard work is being recognized and will help me stay focused and continue to work hard to achieve my goals.”

Currently, 56 Central College alumni work at Principal Financial Group. In addition, Central students have worked as interns at Principal in the past ten years.
