Parachute performs at Central College

Pop rock band Parachute will perform March 1 at Central College. 1,400 tickets are available for P.H. Kuyper Gymnasium. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the concert begins at 7. Tickets cost $22.09 ($11.54 for Central students) and are available online. The concert is sponsored by Central’s Campus Activity Board (CAB).

Central students ask CAB each year to bring notable artists to campus, said Susan Elder, CAB senior and concert committee member. This year, the group studied concert management in a summer session to prepare for the event. “We’ve never had anything of this scale,” Elder said. “It’s something we had to learn a lot about. We hope it will create buzz for Pella as well as Central.”

Parachute, based in Charlottesville, Virginia, will release a new album, “Wide Awake,” March 11 and begin their Wide Awake Tour with Jon McLaughlin March 26. The group has also toured with Kelly Clarkson, Switchfoot, The Goo Goo Dolls, Needtobreathe, The All-American Rejects, Secondhand Serenade and other artists. Their songs “She is Love” and “Under Control” were used in national TV commercials, and they performed on New Year’s Eve 2008 in Times Square, sharing the stage with Taylor Swift and the Jonas Brothers.

“One of the biggest highlights over the years is definitely playing all these venues that we dreamed about growing up,” says Parachute’s Will Anderson. “Anytime we play a show like that, it’s just mind-blowing for us.”
