Central College will welcome around 500 high school students, plus their parents and guests, to campus during Iowa Private College Week August 1-5. Two three-hour sessions are scheduled each day, beginning at 9 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. in the Maytag Student Center.
Students will tour academic buildings and residence halls on campus and attend academic sessions in their areas of interest. Faculty members will discuss the many opportunities for research, internships and global experiential learning available to students. Visitors will also get the chance to meet current students, coaches and directors.
Also on the schedule is a student panel, where Central students will answer questions about what life is like at the college. Visitors will receive information about financial aid and hear stories about successful and distinguished alumni throughout the session.
“Iowa Private College Week gives Central College a chance to showcase our accomplished professors and the academic rigor of our coursework,” said Steffanie Tomlinson, assistant director of admission. “With the amazing opportunities to travel the globe and connect with other cultures, intern at a Fortune 500 company, give back through service, explore the fine arts and compete in a championship athletic program, students quickly learn why this campus community is unlike any other. We invite students ready for this kind of college experience to join us.”
At the end of each session, visitors are invited to lunch or an ice cream sundae bar at the award-winning Central Market. All visiting students will receive a free Central Dutch T-shirt and will have the application fee waived if they decide to apply to the college.
