PELLA — The 2011 Central College High School Bandfest will feature students from 16 high schools across the state. The 79-member festival band and three ensembles, as well as a special performance by the Central College Symphonic Wind Ensemble, will perform at an evening concert Thursday, Jan. 27, at 7 p.m. in Douwstra Auditorium. The concert is free and open to the public.
Students accepted for the festival will participate in sectional and ensemble rehearsals during the day.
The High School Honor Band, under the direction of Central’s Mitchell Lutch, director of bands, will perform selections.
Participating high schools include: AGSWR (Ackley), directed by Thomas Mahler; Aplington-Parkersburg, directed by Thomas Mahler; Bondurant-Farrar, directed by Richard Waddington; Chariton, directed by Diane Tordoff; Davis County (Bloomfield), directed by Linda McConnell; Elk Horn-Kimballton, directed by Michelle Dickinson; Hoover (Des Moines), directed by Randy Hoepker; Iowa Falls, directed by Mary Jean Nederhoff; Iowa Valley (Marengo), directed by Brian Reddington; Lincoln (Des Moines); Moravia, directed by Lise Nelson; Melcher-Dallas, directed by Nathan Smith; Pella, directed by Dick Redman; Pleasantville, directed by John Turnage; Twin Cedars (Bussey), directed by Susan Rowley and West Burlington, directed by Mark Eveleth.
