U.S. Senator Tom Harkin’s aide, Amy Beller, will visit Central College June 17 to learn about the impact of federal investments at the college. The stop is part of the “In the Footsteps of History” tour, designed to highlight Harkin’s partnership with Iowa communities through the years.
Beller will meet with officials at Central to discuss the impact federal funding has had on the college. Beller will also tour the Vermeer Science Center, which benefited from federal funding that Harkin worked to help secure while chairman of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services and Education (the LHHS subcommittee).
“It is particularly important that our college graduates have the science, math and technological skills necessary to excel in their fields,” said Harkin. “I look forward to learning about the impact these investments have had at Central College, and especially at the Center for Math, Science and Technology.”
The event will take place at 1:30 p.m. in Graham Conference Center.
The “In the Footsteps of History” tour will include all Iowa counties and feature local projects aimed at keeping Iowa communities healthy and safe, keeping communities thriving through targeted education, research, and economic development projects and promoting local agriculture and conservation, while mitigating disasters.
