Combos concert to benefit orphans in Sierra Leone

February 28, 2012

Central’s Red and Blue Vocal and Instrumental Combos, under the direction of associate professor of music Gabriel Espinosa, will perform March 7 in the Cox-Snow Recital Hall at 8 p.m.

Attendees will have the option of donating funds for a trip to Sierra Leone by Jennifer Diers, assistant professor of education, and junior elementary education major Hanna Wilson. There, they will train staff at an orphanage about effective hands-on education techniques. The funds will also go toward other outreach projects, such as providing food to a local children’s hospital.

At the concert, Wilson will sell “Save the Orphan” T-shirts to benefit their work in Sierra Leone.

The Red and Blue Combos are auditioned groups featuring vocalists and a four-piece band. The groups will perform popular songs from the pop, rock and jazz genres.

The show is free and open to the public. Tickets must be acquired in advance and are available at the information booth in Maytag Student Center or by calling 641-628-9000.
