Joshua Doležal, associate professor of English, will read from his memoir “Down from the Mountaintop” for the Writers Reading series April 10 at Central College.
In his coming-of-age memoir, Doležal shares his childhood growing up as a homesteader in northwestern Montana. Later, moves to Tennessee, Nebraska, Uruguay and Iowa leave him with a longing for his mountain home. Doležal traces the evolution of his desire for a spiritual mountaintop from which to view the world, and he considers the topics of home and belonging.
Doležal’s essays have appeared in The Kenyon, Shenandoah, Fourth Genre, The Gettysburg Review and elsewhere. He teaches American literature, creative writing and sustainability.
Doležal will read in the Geisler Library Reading Room at 7:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
