Central soccer plans to raise $1.5 million for seating project

September 21, 2012

Central College soccer unveiled plans to begin fundraising $1.5 million over the next three years for the Hillside Soccer Stadium seating project.

“We’re very excited about the opportunity of the soccer field renovation,” said Eric Van Kley, interim athletic director. “Both the men’s and women’s soccer teams have done a terrific job of generating energy and support around their program.”

Phase one of the project includes seating at midfield that will consist of stadium seating and limestone terraces for spectator seats. It will also provide funding for ADA seats, stairs, relocation of a utility pole and ADA access to the field.

Phase two will feature even more improvements, including covered seating, stadium lighting, concessions and restrooms area, entry plaza, landscaping and a donor recognition area. Ground breaking on phase two is slated for June 30, 2015.

With an expected $300,000 raised by June 30, 2013, the ground breaking for phase one should begin in May. The project has already secured $50,000, and the group hopes to raise $175,000 more by the end of the year.

“We see this facility upgrade as both improving seating and enhancing the overall level of our programs for the student athletes we serve,” said Van Kley.

Beginning Sept. 29, the parents of the men’s and women’s soccer players will host an online auction to raise money for the project. They will kick it off with a silent auction before the women’s soccer game at 1 p.m.
