The Central College Jazz Band will perform in concert with the Carol Welsman Jazz Quartet Nov. 11 at 8 p.m. in the Cox-Snow Recital Hall.
The Jazz Band, under the direction of associate professor of music Gabriel Espinosa, will perform the evening’s first set. Justin Von Ahsen and adjunct instructor of music Matt Driscoll will be featured as guest performers on trombone and trumpet, respectively. Selections by the 14-member ensemble include “Higher Ground,” “Persevere” and “Dat Der.”
Welsman, an internationally recognized singer and pianist, will perform following the Jazz Band. Her repertoire includes jazz, along with Brazilian and Spanish selections. Joining Welsman are Tim Crumley and Dave Kobberdahl.
Welsman has released eight albums since her 1995 debut and tours regularly around the world. She has been nominated for several jazz awards, winning the 2002 Vocalist of the Year award from National Jazz Awards and the Canadian Smooth Jazz Awards’ 2006 prize for best pianist. Her most recent album, “I Like Men,” released in 2009, was recognized as a Pick of the Year by USA Today.
