Central College will host the Fringe Festival April 23-26. The four-day event is produced by students and will include theater acts, music, dramatic readings, comedy acts and cultural events.
Central College’s Fringe Festival is one part of a worldwide Fringe movement that started in Edinburgh, Scotland, to celebrate local and regional fine arts. The festival promotes providing onlookers with a new perspective on art, taking participants from various groups on campus and holding events in buildings that would not normally be associated with the arts. Performers applied to be a part of the festival and come from all departments on campus.
One new event happening during the Fringe Festival this year is Color Me Central: A Run to Celebrate Holi. The Hindu festival holi (known by Westerners as the “color festival”) was the inspiration for the Color Run. Traditionally during this festival, participants celebrate the triumph of good over evil by holding bonfires, playing music and throwing colored powder and dyed water at each other. Sponsored by Intercultural Life, the event will include a run with traditional dyes and colored powder.
