Central brings health professionals to “Meet the Pros”

October 12, 2011

Health professionals from Pella Regional Health Center will be featured at Central College’s fall 2011 Meet the Pros event Oct. 18 from 11 a.m.-12:20 p.m.

Sponsored by the college’s career center, the Meet the Pros series connects Central students with alumni and employers in specific careers.

“It’s such a great opportunity for students to meet a variety of professionals all in one place and one time,” said Pat Joachim Kitzman, career center director.

The event will feature 11 health professionals. After a brief introduction of each panelist, the professionals will host individual breakout sessions during which students can receive more specific information about career fields of interest. Topics for discussion include education requirements, current issues related to the profession and internship or job shadowing opportunities at PRHC. The event is also a networking opportunity.

Though physicians and nurses will be among the featured professionals, the event highlights other careers in the health industry, including pharmacy, information technology, social work, public relations, medical technology and finance.

“When most people hear health care they think doctors, nurses and therapists,” said Kitzman. “But hospitals and clinics need folks in all kinds of additional fields. We wanted to include other professionals to appeal to students from a variety of majors.”

Meet the Pros will be hosted in Vermeer Science Center room 180, with breakout sessions moving to nearby classrooms.
