Through February 14, the Mills Gallery at Central College will host sculptures by Shaila Christofferson. The exhibit, titled “Extended Play,” examines material culture and the contemporary landscape through sculpture media.
Through her artwork, Christofferson attempts to elicit associations of familiar objects, commenting on the tenuous nature of the constructed environment. She is an associate professor in the department of art and design at Chicago State University and has won several institutional grants and awards for her work, including the George Sugarman Foundation Individual Artist Grant and the State of West Virginia Fellowship Grant for Individual Artists.
In addition to displaying her work, Christofferson will speak at an artist reception in the gallery on Feb. 14 at 5 p.m.
Her work can be seen during gallery hours, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The exhibit is free and open to the public. For more information, please contact Treva Reimer, Mills Gallery director, at 641-628-5334 or reimert@central.edu.
