Pella’s “Let’s Get Wild” collaboration brings to life a story authored by the City of Pella’s horticulturist, Marcy Simbro-Woodhouse. Kaylee Peiffer ’25, intern with Pella Art Center, and Mary Robertson ’91, project manager for Student Support Services and student accommodations, illustrated the book. Katie Dreyer arranged and published the coloring book.
The Pella Art Center Department and the Pella Public Library both themed all the summer programs to have a wild theme. Throughout the summer, the City of Pella Parks Department has been adding animal sculptures that represent characters from the book into flower beds and trees across the town square.
The animals in Pella’s central park have been named after individual kids who have impacted not only both the Pella Art Center and Pella Public Library programs but also our community: Giraffe, Stella Turnbull (Travis ’99 and Sarah Fosdick Turnbull ’20); Turtle, Grace Diers (Doug and Jen Diers, director of education); Elephant, Filson Newman (Brian and Ashley Dickey Newman ’02); Giraffe, Milly Zellmer (Andrew and Kristi Zellmer); Lion, JT Atchison (Todd and Stacy Atchison); Turtle, Estella Henderson (Stephen and Lacey Henderson).
