Gabriel Espinosa, associate professor of music at Central College, has been unanimously selected by the Greater Des Moines Community Jazz Center to receive the Iowa Jazz Hall of Fame award for his years of leadership in jazz music.
Shawn Wick, assistant professor of sociology at Central College, has been elected president of the Iowa Sociological Association (ISA) for 2014-2015. Wick was selected by other sociology professors throughout the state, and he will be responsible for hosting the organization’s annual conference.
Central College has been awarded a share of a $600,000 grant from the Iowa Department of Education for the next three years. The grant will fund a collaborative project between Central College and Drake University to train high school math teachers from low-income areas.
