Central’s music department will kick off its performances for the academic year with “Tragedy and Triumph: The C Minor Piano Concerti of Mozart and Beethoven” at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8, on Hoekstra Family Stage in Douwstra Auditorium.
Ian Moschenross, professor of music at Central, and Julia Andrews, private teacher and freelance musician, will perform works of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Ludwig van Beethoven on piano. The program includes two works, both in the key of C minor: Mozart’s Piano Concerto in C Minor, K. 491, and Beethoven’s Piano Concerto in C Minor, Op. 37. The Mozart concerto left a deep impression on Beethoven and is said to have influenced Beethoven’s own piano concerto in the same key.
The event is free and open to the public.
