Central College invites college-bound high school students with an interest in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields to visit the Central campus in Pella, Iowa, on Thursday, June 28 and/or Friday, June 29 for a get-acquainted session.

The free event is a chance for students to meet Central’s faculty, tour the college’s state-of-the-art Vermeer Science Center, learn about Central students’ cutting-edge research projects and preview the college’s latest major offering: a B.S. in engineering.

The event is open to all high school students who register in advance. Students may bring a friend or their parents.

Participating students and their guests will also get a campus tour, an opportunity to meet Central students and alumni and complimentary lunch and dinner. In addition, students will have the ability to participate in hands-on STEM workshop sessions in the college’s classrooms, laboratories and out in the field. Hands-on sessions include:

  • Up Close and Personal with Bats
  • Slime, Time and Frozen Fruit
  • Make the Sun Work for You—Engineering for Sustainability
  • Statistics with Dolphins and Mathematically Claiming an Inheritance
  • Buzzzzz on Over: Iowa’s Native Honey Bees
  • Picobot: Robots, Logic and Computer Science

Participants can choose to attend on either or both days. Those students who participate both days can opt to stay overnight in one of Central’s residence halls for the full campus experience.
