Theatre Central presents Samuel Beckett’s “Endgame”

November 9, 2011

Central College’s Theatre Central will host three performances of Samuel Beckett’s surreal one-act comedy “Endgame” Nov. 16-18 at 7:30 p.m. in Central’s Kruidenier Center.

Directed by senior Jason Seaba, “Endgame” is an exploration of the stories constructed to make sense of life. It follows just four characters: the invalid Hamm, his servant Clov and his legless parents Nagg and Nell, who live in garbage cans. The play is set in an underground room in Hamm’s home, with two windows providing the characters a view of the apparently post-apocalyptic world outside.

Beckett was a native of Ireland but spent the majority of his career in Paris. He wrote most of his work in French before translating the plays into English himself. “Endgame” premiered in 1957 at the Royal Court Theatre in London. Along with “Waiting for Godot,” it is one of Beckett’s most performed plays.

Tickets are available at the Maytag Student Center information booth or by calling 641-628-9000. Cost is $5 for general admission or $3 for students or seniors. Admission is free with a Central ID.
