High School Singfest at Central College Feb. 10

PELLA — The 2011 Central College High School Singfest will feature students from 22 high schools across the state. The 130-member choir will perform at an evening concert Thursday, Feb. 10, at 7 p.m. in Douwstra Auditorium. The concert will also feature the Central College A Cappella Choir, Chamber Singers and Festival Choir. The concert is free and open to the public.

The High School Honor Choir, under the direction of Central’s Mark Babcock, associate professor of music, will perform a variety of selections, including “My Spirit Sang All Day” by Finzi, “Ave Maria” by Biebl, “O Clap Your Hands” by Vaughan Williams and others. Davis Folkerts, professor emeritus of music, will accompany on piano.

Participating high schools include: Albia, directed by Rachel Walker Corpus; Prairie City-Monroe, directed by Carol Warrick; Collins-Maxwell, directed by Sue Hunter; Earlham, directed by Ashley Maiers; Cardinal of Eldon, directed by Jane Koch; Iowa Valley, directed by Neil Schwarting; Indianola, directed by Julie Schnieders; Lynnville-Sully, directed by Connie Kroeze; Melcher-Dallas; directed by Nathan Smith; Montezuma, directed by Carol Behounek; Moravia, directed by Meredith Blankenheim; New London, directed by Bobbi Huebner; Newton, directed by Norm Grimm; Pekin, directed by Kay Evans; Pleasantville, directed by Cynthia Thill; Seymour, directed by Natalie Brown; Sigourney, directed by Randall Stichter; Tri-County, directed by Emily Pfadenhauer; Twin Cedars, directed by Donna Huston; Van Buren, directed by Marcie Atwood; Wilton, directed by Bev Reuter; and Winfield, directed by Brianna Schumann.
