PELLA — Artist James Petran will hold an exhibition titled “Still Works: Recent Watercolors by James Petran” in Mills Gallery in the Lubbers Center for Visual Arts starting Wednesday, Feb. 16, and running through Friday, March 11. The event is free and open to the public. Gallery hours are Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
An artist talk and reception will be held at the gallery Wednesday, Feb. 16, at 5:30 p.m.
An Iowa artist, Petran received a Bachelor of Science degree in art education from the University of Wisconsin-Stout and Master of Arts and Master of Fine Arts degrees from the University of Iowa in printmaking. He deals with watercolors and everyday objects arranged in simple compositions that show his skill with detail and subtle changes in light and shadow. Petran has been painting professionally since 1983 and has received many awards at top shows throughout the country.
