Central College’s Stavros Papakonstantinidis, associate professor of communication studies, co-authored a chapter titled, Adapting Marketing Education to the AI Revolution: A Longitudinal Perspective on Skills and Workforce Preparedness, in the Springer Nature book, “AI Powered Control Systems in Fintech.”
The co-authored chapter examines how priorities for marketing skills have changed between 2020 and 2025, comparing both current workforce needs and future expectations. The research found a noticeable shift in the skills employers value most, with adaptability in fast-changing environments remaining a key priority across both timeframes. While the importance of adaptability for current roles declined slightly, expectations for future roles increased significantly. The findings also highlight four key recommendations for curriculum development.
Using quantitative analysis to identify these trends, the study offers practical insights for colleges and universities seeking to create flexible training programs that better prepare graduates for the evolving workforce.
Papakonstantinidis joined Central College’s communication studies faculty in 2021. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from State University of New York at New Paltz, a Master of Science from Ithaca College and a Doctor of Philosophy from University of Leicester.
