Central College President Mark Putnam announced a consolidated operations plan and new leadership aimed at streamlining operations and enhancing customer services. The college has realigned five administrative divisions, focusing on campus services, facilities management, information technology, strategic projects, finance and accounting management and retail management.

New Leadership Appointments

Megan Dieleman will serve as the director of strategic projects college-wide. Dieleman will transition from her role as executive assistant to the vice president for finance and administration to focus on project management and professional training in project management for faculty and staff.

Janine Fontana has been promoted to executive director of campus services. She will oversee the internal services for employees and collaborative work for facilities on campus. Fontana will retain oversight of purchasing and facilities services, a role she previously held as director. Her responsibilities will also include user interface and managing all requests for information technology services and facilities services.

Craig Roose was named the executive director of facilities management. This expanded role builds upon Roose’s previous work and will encompass oversight of all facilities maintenance, fleet maintenance, building services, grounds, capital projects and infrastructure development. Roose will play a key role in Central’s efforts to reduce its square footage, identifying areas on campus for redevelopment, renewal and retirement and contributing significantly to the Imagine More initiative.

Joe Vande Kieft ’99, chief information officer, will continue the renewal of Central’s information technology infrastructure. This includes the launch of a new database system, a new human resources system and continued migration toward Microsoft Teams. He will also guide the information technology team in developing cybersecurity strategies.

Iwan Williams was appointed executive director of retail management in January 2025. Williams oversees a combined set of business areas, including dining, catering, conferences, events, camps, clinics, concessions, restaurant venues, the Pella Cinema, the Spirit Shoppe, product merchandising and local business partnerships.

Finance and Administration Restructuring

The restructuring of finance and administration follows the announced departure of Karen Tumlinson, vice president of finance and administration/assistant treasurer, who accepted a position at Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas. This reorganization was undertaken in collaboration with the Board of Trustees leadership, the senior leadership team and the senior directors of the finance and administration team.

Mike Van Voorst ’93, a member of the Board of Trustees, has been elected treasurer of the college. He will also provide oversight of Central’s finance and accounting activities as the interim chief financial officer until a permanent appointment is made.

Jeff Sanger ’01 has been appointed director of accounting, leading the daily operations of finance.
