Central College faculty received $135,364 in grants from the Moore Family Foundation to support 22 proposals for the 2025-26 academic year.

The Moore Family Foundation provides grants to support Central faculty professional development and faculty-led projects that enhance student learning.

“Central faculty are truly fortunate to benefit from the generous support of the Moore Family Foundation,” says Aaron Roerdink, dean of faculty and Class of 1997 Central graduate. “This year’s awards include support for sabbatical projects, conference travel, curriculum development and revision and resources for active learning classrooms. The variety of these activities benefits the professional development of faculty members and impacts students’ learning. We are extremely thankful to the support of the Moores over many years and the Moore Family Foundation.”

The foundation has provided significant support to Central over the years. Since 2013, the college’s faculty have received 174 grants totaling $880,730 from the Moore Family Foundation Development Program for Teaching.

The late Frank Moore, a 1949 Central graduate, and his wife, Grace Moore, who was designated an honorary alumna of Central in 2001, have been long-term generous benefactors to the college. Frank served as director of the human research area files at Yale University, where Grace was a foreign language translation editor. From 1979-88, Frank served as a Central trustee. Together, the Moores created two scholarships funded by their annuities, one endowed scholarship, two faculty awards and a chair in anthropology, in addition to ongoing gifts from the Moore Family Foundation.

Current Moore Family Foundation board members are Jim Brandl, a 1965 Central graduate; Dan Bruss, former Central chemistry professor; Al Hibbard, professor emeritus of mathematics; Fred Kreykes; Tom Johnson, retired vice president for finance and administration/treasurer; Dave Sutphen, retired vice president for advancement and a 1961 Central graduate; Ardie Pals Sutphen, retired executive assistant to the president and Central Class of 1964; Vern Den Herder, Central trustee emeritus and a 1971 Central graduate; and Roerdink.
