Central College introduces Grandparent Day on Saturday, Oct. 19. Grandparents are invited to bring their grandchild/ren to the Central football game at 1 p.m. in the Ron and Joyce Schipper Stadium when the team plays Luther College.

All children 12 and under attending the game will receive free admission, with the purchase of an adult ticket, and the Grandparent Special: a bag of popcorn and M&M’s.

The Grandparent Special honors the late Dan Marburger, 1989 Central graduate, who enjoyed this game-day tradition with his grandkids. Marburger was the Perry High School principal, who died from the injuries he sustained during the Jan. 4 Perry school shooting.

“One of Dad’s traditions with his grandchildren was to take them to a Central Dutch football game and buy them popcorn and M&M’s during the game,” says Seth Marburger, Dan’s son, 2016 Central graduate and special education teacher in the Pella Community School District. “We love the popcorn and M&M tradition and are thrilled to see it expand to all grandparents and grandchildren at the game.”
