Central College students received recognition during the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival – Midwest Region conference in Des Moines, Iowa.
Amelia Brown, Class of 2025, art and musical theatre double major, from Prairie City, Iowa, received commendations for achievement in puppetry design and construction as well as for regional allied design and technology for the production of “Young Frankenstein.”
Brooklynn Cassens, Class of 2025, an elementary education major, from Colorado Springs, Colorado, received commendations for stage management in the production of “Young Frankenstein.”
Emily Shields, Class of 2025, musical theatre and art double major, from Arden Hills, Minnesota, received commendations for stage management in the production of “Young Frankenstein.”
Mollie Abkes, Class of 2022 graduate, from Pella, Iowa, received commendations for properties design and construction for the production of “Young Frankenstein.”
Central’s theatre creative team received a commendation for their achievement in the composition of design elements for the production of “A Grand Night for Singing.”
Participating students at the conference included Brown, Bryson McGowan, Class of 2024, musical theatre major, from Urbandale, Iowa; Travis Mitchell, Class of 2025, undeclared major, from Otley, Iowa; Keely Krambeer, Class of 2026, undeclared major, from Wadena, Iowa; and Eryn Lenhart, Class of 2027, undeclared major, from Bondurant, Iowa. They attended workshops, worked with theatre professionals and watched student productions from across the Midwest.
C.D. Adamson, associate professor of theatre, and Kate Kanne-Smith, assistant professor of theatre, traveled with the students and served in leadership roles during the conference. Adamson was the coordinator for the Irene Ryan (yes, that’s Granny from the “Beverly Hillbillies”) Acting Scholarship auditions. Kanne-Smith was the coordinator of the portfolio and resume workshop.
