Central College students in the theatre program attended the regional Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival in Des Moines. Of those in attendance, five Central students were recognized while participating in the program.

Amelia Brown, Class of 2025, earned recognitions for Innovation in Costume Technology with paper costumes and was the Sharon Sobel Costume Design Honorable Mention for their design of “Lend Me a Tenor.” Kami Waymire, Class of 2024, Meredith Ackerman, Class of 2022, and Mia Condon, Class of 2022, were recognized for their ensemble acting work in “Crimes of the Heart” in spring of 2022. Bryson McGowan and Waymire, both in the Class of 2024, received callback invitations for professional summer theatre work.

“All of the students in attendance enjoyed numerous workshops surrounding various aspects of theatre and also attended several shows presented by schools in the region,” shares C.D. Adamson, associate professor of theatre. “This (was) an invaluable learning opportunity for them!”

Kate Kanne-Smith, assistant professor of theatre, was also recognized for her scenic design work on “H.M.S. Pinafore,” and Adamson served as the Irene Ryan Acting Scholarship Coordinator with more than 250 students competing from around the six-state region.
