Central College announced the promotion of Denise Lamphier to the role of executive director of communications and marketing. Lamphier had been the director of integrated marketing communications and media for the past four and a half years.

In her new role, Lamphier will continue to oversee the college’s marketing, communications and media relations efforts. Since joining the college in 2017, her role has expanded with the addition of internal communications, health and COVID-19 communications, crisis communications and livestreaming.

“Denise brings dynamic and creative leadership to Central. Her experiences and vision for marketing and storytelling have given Central a huge lift in our enrollment, fundraising and public engagement,” says Sunny Gonzales Eighmy, vice president for advancement and a 1999 Central graduate. “She creates the vision and manages a sophisticated operation, which executes innovative and cost-effective marketing and communications campaigns that strengthen Central’s reputation.

“I’m thrilled to recognize Denise for her leadership in marketing and communications. She has led the department and college through a branding update, the tuition pricing strategy rollout, a strategic marketing plan for a dynamic and nimble enrollment environment and communications for fundraising to complete the Forever Dutch campaign and so much more,” Eighmy says.

At Central, Lamphier leads a team of nine that has won several national awards. These include three platinum awards from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education in 2021 and the Best in Annual Giving Challenges from the Annual Giving Network in 2022.

Lamphier has a Master of Arts in professional journalism from the University of Iowa and a Bachelor of Arts from Upper Iowa University. Prior to joining the Central team, Lamphier served 20 years at Grinnell Regional Medical Center in Grinnell, Iowa, as the director of communications and development. She also has served as the editorial director and assistant director of public relations at Grinnell College and as a reporter at the Dubuque Telegraph Herald.
