Chevy Freiburger, vice president for enrollment management and dean of admission at Central College, has been selected to serve a three-year presidential cycle for the Iowa Association for College Admission Counseling. Beginning 2022-23, Freiburger will be the president-elect, president the following year and past president in 2024-25.
In his nearly two decades of admission experience at Central, Freiburger has focused on helping educate families about the value of college, how to find the best fit at a college and what to expect from a college. This is a volunteer position for Freiburger, and it aligns with his values.
The Iowa ACAC assists students, parents and secondary school counselors in the college admission process through educational and professional development programs. Noted Iowa ACAC activities include College Day/College Night fairs; an annual professional development conference for college admission counselors; secondary school counselor education through R.I.D.E. (Rediscovering Iowa’s Diverse Education) which visited Central in June; and Visit the Hill, a government advocacy event at the state capitol.
Freiburger joined Central in 2003 as an admission counselor. He increased roles and responsibilities resulting in being promoted to director of admission in 2011, executive director of admission in 2019 and dean of enrollment management in 2020. Earlier in 2022, he was named vice president for enrollment management and dean of admission at Central.
Freiburger graduated from Coe College with a bachelor’s degree in business and German. Before coming to Central, he taught English for the Ministry of Education in Kosai, Japan.
