The sixth-annual Central College Hoo-Rah Day tallied 368 gifts in one day, April 12. In total, the college raised $339,583 to help support student scholarships and programs. Hoo-Rah Day, an annual day-long event, celebrates Central pride with the nation and world.

In addition to fundraising efforts, the day allows alumni and friends of the college to be involved by sharing photos, stories and videos through social media channels. This year, the event logged more than 68,000 social media impressions in just 24 hours, reaching more than 54,000 people! Supporters planted Hoo-Rah signs in yards around the state and the college’s Maytag Student Center was abuzz with activities.

Alumni, parents of alumni or students, faculty and staff members and students contributed to the success. Together, donors raised $312,702 for the Journey Scholarship Fund. Each dollar donated to the JSF directly benefits students. In addition, more than $26,000 was raised for 60 campus programs and designations. Gifts came from 37 states and the District of Columbia. Central supporters come from around the world — including a gift that arrived from Japan.

“A Central liberal-arts education prepares students for the needs of today’s world. We truly are working alongside students as they aspire to make a difference locally and globally. For so many students a Central education is possible thanks to our incredible alumni and friends and their continued, unwavering support for the Central family on Hoo-Rah Day,” says Sunny Gonzales Eighmy, vice president for advancement and a 1999 Central graduate. “The generosity displayed on this special day opens many doors for our students. We are blessed to be part of such a caring community at Central.”
