Central RED Society will present “An Iowa History Capstone” with Dave Baker on Wednesday, Nov. 17, in the Boat/Moore/Weller Rooms in Maytag Student Center.

Dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m. with the presentation beginning at 6 p.m. Cost is $15, and a cash bar will be available. Membership to Central RED is required to attend.

In 2009, Baker began the unusual adventure of photographing all 947 communities in Iowa. While he anticipated making a photography book, he instead had experiences and lessons beyond his imagination. Baker will discuss Iowa history, the sociology of rural culture and showcase some of the most unique places in the state.

Baker graduated from Central in 2010 with a degree in business management and history. He is an assistant finance manager at Iowa State University. In his spare time, he runs “The 29th State,” a blog devoted to celebrating Iowa History, heritage and architecture.

In addition to “An Iowa History Capstone,” Baker portrays George Cruikshank, a Fort Dodge soldier who fought in the Civil War, as a one-person show. He resides in Ankeny with his wife, Danielle, and their two children.
