Jim Zaffiro, professor of political science at Central College, will present “Nurturing Global Citizenship Through Community-Based Human Rights and Social Justice Education” from 7-8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 15, in the Boat/Moore rooms of Maytag Student Center.

The presentation is part of the 2021-22 Central Lecture Series with a focus on responsible citizenship and is open to the public.

Zaffiro will discuss the value of cultivating a global perspective in the context of a liberal arts education. Offering meaningful opportunities for community engagement and reflection while infusing human rights and social justice education across the curriculum will help prepare students for “service in local, national and international communities.”

Zaffiro has taught a wide variety of courses over nearly 40 years at Central, including International Politics; U.S. in World Affairs; International Law and Organizations; Modern African Civilization; Global Sustainability; and American Environmental History and Policy. He received a bachelor’s degree from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, followed by his master’s degree and Ph.D. from University of Wisconsin-Madison.
