Central College is promoting water awareness by hosting Water Week from April 1-5. It allows students to experience the college’s passion for environmental sustainability through interactive presentations and educational activities.

Students can participate all week in a Rainworks scavenger hunt. Rainworks is a superhydrophobic coating that repels water and dries clear. Pieces of art will be spread around campus but only appear when wet. To participate, students can pick up a pamphlet of clues from Student Involvement in Maytag Student Center.

Vern Cochran, hydroelectric plant supervisor at Missouri River Energy Services, will speak at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 2, in the Weller Room at Maytag. He will discuss the hydroelectric project being constructed at Red Rock Dam.

Jessica Heath, a natural resource specialist at Lake Red Rock, will speak at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 3, in the Weller Room. She will discuss the history of Red Rock Dam and water quality.

Students also can watch Chasing Coral at 8 p.m. Thursday, April 4, in Van Emmerick Studio. Chasing Coral follows a team of divers, photographers and scientists and educates students on coral bleaching.
