I’m having a great experience this summer! I’m an intern in the marketing department at Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance Company. I wanted to gain more experience in marketing and get a feel for corporate culture — and hoped to work on projects and create useful marketing materials. Now it’s my job to assist with event planning and executing corporate and employee events, plus working with content creators and miscellaneous marketing projects.
I like that I get to do something different every day. I’m learning about marketing on several different levels: advertising, event planning, creating and coding. So far I’ve been able to create materials for several different events and graphics for social media. I’m also working with Toastmasters, a group that meets at Grinnell Mutual, to update their marketing and start a campaign to get new members and refresh the group. I’ve helped in almost every area of the marketing department here.
In my classes at Central, I learned it’s important to keep the customer always in the front of your mind. Now, I get to do that while working for Grinnell Mutual. Many Central grads work here — and I had the opportunity to “sell” Central to an employee’s daughter who is a senior in high school this year. Meanwhile, I keep coming back to serve on Central’s SOS staff as a Peer Leader. I’m excited to see what the rest of the summer brings!
