Mary E.M. Strey, vice president for academic affairs and dean of the faculty at Central College, has been elected to a second four-year term on the National Board of the Lilly Fellows Program in Humanities and the Arts. She previously served on the board from 2007-2011.

Strey, also professor of chemistry and biology, completed her B.A. degree in biochemistry and romance languages from Bowdoin College and her Ph.D. in biochemistry from Dartmouth College. Since completing her National Institute of Health-funded postdoctoral fellowship in molecular neurobiology, Strey has served 25 years as a faculty member and administrator at several colleges and universities. Strey also serves as a consultant for National Network colleges and universities, and she completed two years (2015, 2016) on the Lilly Graduate Fellows selection committee.

Central College has been a member of the Lilly Fellows National Network of Church Related Colleges and Universities since 2011. Founded in 1991, the Lilly Fellows Program in Humanities and the Arts seeks to strengthen the quality and shape the character of church-related institutions of learning. Among its current membership of 98 schools, the National Network represents a diversity of denominational traditions, institutional types and geographic locations. The program is based at Christ College, the interdisciplinary honors college of Valparaiso University in Northwest Indiana.
