Central College hosts the 6th Annual Midwest Undergraduate Conference in the Humanities (MUCH) Nov. 12. Students from 10 Midwest colleges and universities will present research and creative work, and keynote speaker Aron Aji presents at 9 a.m. in Graham Annex. All sessions are open to guests.
The conference, held at Central College for the first time, includes virtually every discipline in the humanities, said associate professor of Spanish Kathy Korcheck. Individual and panel presentations will explore English, history, philosophy, religion, art, theater, Spanish, French, German, Russian and more.
“It’s really a celebration of student scholarship,” said Korcheck. “It will allow us to showcase the best of Central College student research and to help put our own students in contact with student researchers at other institutions.”
Aron Aji is director of the Master of Fine Arts in Literary Translation program at the University of Iowa. Aji, a native of Turkey, has translated works by Turkish writers, including “The Garden of Departed Cats” by Bilge Karasu, which won the 2004 National Translation Award. Aji is also president of The American Literary Translators Association.
