Know a kid who loves food and cooking — or wants to learn? Kids ages 9 to 11 can cook and make memories at Central College during Fun With Food camp July 25-29. Kids will learn gardening skills in the Central College garden — how to plant, what kinds of vegetables grow well and how to identify them. They’ll also learn about nutrition, and of course, cooking.
Fun With Food is planned around a summer Olympics theme, incorporating both friendly competition and cultural cuisine. “Food connects us to people and cultures around the world,” says Giselle Bruskewitz, coordinator of sustainability education.
Camp activities also include cooking outdoors and community field trips, such as visiting an egg farm and other locations to experience where food comes from. Participants will gain skills to choose and prepare healthy meals, says Bruskewitz, and learn to foster lifelong habits of sustainability.
Camp registration is open at www.central.edu/camps. Activities are held 9 a.m.-3 p.m. July 25-29, and registration is $180. Learn more.
