The Dr. Donald P. Racheter Mock Trial Invitational has been established at Central College through a lead gift from John ’87 and Julie ’90 Fisher. A new endowment will also provide ongoing funds to support Central’s mock trial team.

Racheter, professor of political science 1976–2005, helped found the American Mock Trial Association and served Central students for 21 years as mock trial coach and pre-law program director. He is now chief operating officer of the Public Interest Institute.

Julie Fisher serves on Central’s Board of Trustees, and John Fisher was a member of Central’s very first mock trial team, which captured second place at the national tournament in 1985. Coached by Racheter, Central’s team continued to reach the national tournament every year for 20 years.

This spring, Central’s 2016 mock trial team competed in the AMTA Opening Round Championship Series in St. Paul.
