Theatre Central presents the Fringe Festival

The Central College theatre department presents its first Fringe Festival, four days in April that will focus on the arts, including theater, dance, spoken word, music, film and much more. The festival will take place from April 24-27.

The Fringe Festival provides an exploratory and magnetic environment in which a variety of unique arts can be exhibited through utilization of nontraditional venues. This student-led festival aims to promote an appreciation of the arts to the local and surrounding communities as well as Central College.

Fringe Festivals take place all over the world. Some last a few days while others span weeks and involve thousands of people and venues. Ann Wilkinson, instructor of theatre, approached her Arts Management class about leading the festival on campus. The students have spearheaded the project since then.

Sophomore Tim Gibson is just one of the students in the Arts Management class helping to organize events and spread the word about Fringe.

“It is a unique arts festival that pertains to any form of performing art,” Gibson said. “It’s a time for artists to show their unique art around campus in places that normally wouldn’t contain art, like music in the Vermeer Science Center and the Roe Center.”

Most performing arts events are free and open to the public. The Fringe Festival events and descriptions are listed below.
