Theatre Central presents College the Musical April 27-30

PELLA — How amazing is this? Central College’s theatre and music departments teamed up to present College the Musical by Drew Fornarola and Scott Elmegreen, starting Wednesday, April 27, and running through Saturday, April 30. The show will be performed in the Kruidenier Center and starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for students and senior citizens and free with Central ID and are available at the information booth in Maytag Student Center by calling 641-628-9000.

They sing. They dance. They sometimes go to class. “Animal House” meets “Rent,” College the Musical celebrates the ridiculousness and fun of dorm life while reflecting the growing up that somehow happens amid the insanity. The story follows Nathan, a new freshman, as he discovers the freedoms of college life. But as the weekend progresses, he realizes that sleeping in, skipping classes, playing video games and partying can have consequences.

Featuring such songs as “Alcoholeluia,” “Generation Meh” and “How Amazing Is This?” College the Musical runs at 90 minutes and due to some colorful language and behavior, may not be suited for children.

College the Musical was the winner of the 2008 New York Musical Theatre Festival Excellence in Writing award and the 2008 PACE New Musicals Competition. It was also a finalist of the 2009 Richard Rogers Award.

The production is directed by Ann Wilkinson, instructor of theatre. Vocal direction is by Anne Petrie, associate professor of music, and choreography by Christy Hogan, a 2008 Central graduate. The production also features Janna DeZwarte, a member of Union Street Players.
