Students perform Acoustic Underground concert

Students Curtis Jackson and Megan Koolmees will perform in Central College’s Acoustic Underground series Feb. 1 at 8 p.m. in the lower of level of the Maytag Student Center.

Koolmees, a sophomore French and philosophy major from Paramount, Calif., will perform a 45-minute set of indie and acoustic pop music, including “The One That Got Away” by Katy Perry. She will accompany herself on guitar and ukulele.

“My music is influenced by experience and emotion,” Koolmees said. “If I can feel the words of the songs, and I can put myself into the situation, then I’ll perform it and hope it reaches other people, as well.”

Jackson, a first-year music and communications major from Newton, Iowa, will perform a 45-minute set of original compositions. His music is influenced by a wide variety of artists, including Incubus, Foo Fighters and Bob Dylan.

Acoustic Underground is in its inaugural year. The concert series is designed to give singer-songwriters from the Central community a chance to share their music.

The event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Treva Reimer at 641-628-5334 or reimert@central.edu.
